What causes hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes the body to sweat much more than is necessary for the regulation of body temperature. The condition, though fairly common, can cause discomfort, embarrassment and anxiety, as it can negatively affect daily activities and social life.

Hyperhidrosis affects mostly the underarm area, but can be present in the hands, feet, face and head of the patient. Symptoms include wet, clammy hands and feet, as well as sweating that is visible through clothing.

This excess sweating may be caused by a medical condition, such as obesity, menopause or diabetes or it can have no underlying medical cause.
