Orthodontics is one of the ways in which we can use small forces to move teeth to a more desired position. This is more commonly known as braces. Orthodontics has come a long way in the last 20 years and we can now offer a range of more comfortable and discrete ways to straighten teeth, to give you a more aesthetically pleasing smile.
The most appropriate person to provide Orthodontic treatment is an Orthodontist. An Orthodontist is a specialist who has had extra training and experience to be able to provide the treatment in a safe and effective manner. We offer several orthodontic treatments as well as Invisalign.
Lingual braces are an increasingly-popular method of treatment for misaligned teeth due to their discreet nature. Unlike regular train-track braces, they are fitted to the back of the patient’s teeth (the side closest to the tongue) and therefore provide a more aesthetically pleasing solution.
Lingual braces can be a great solution for those living with crooked teeth who wish to improve their positioning in a discreet manner. They are best suited to those who wish to make minor or major adjustments to the alignment of their upper or lower teeth.
Much like our clear braces, these metal braces are perfect for those who wish to adjust the positioning of many teeth in order to improve their alignment.
Despite their appearance, metal braces can sometimes work faster giving you your desired result quicker than other appliances. They are also the most cost effective of Orthodontic treatment.
Ceramic braces are a great solution for those who need to change the positioning of numerous teeth to achieve their desired result, yet would prefer a more discreet method of treatment. Our brackets combine the benefits from a more traditional treatment method with the patient’s aesthetic requirements. Our brackets are extremely small and translucent, which means they blend in very well with your teeth.
Further research was conducted to develop a product which is stain resistant and will not discolour over time, so you needn’t worry about stains caused from coffee or other drinks. This particular product is extremely strong and hardwearing yet has features to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
Invisalign is a treatment method which uses a series of bespoke clear aligners to straighten misaligned teeth in an extremely discreet manner. Every few weeks the patient will change their aligners to the next in the series, allowing constant pressure to be applied to the patient’s teeth throughout the treatment process. Although pressure is constant, the entire process is extremely gentle, so patients can simply get on with their lives.
There are many advantages of Invisalign as an orthodontic treatment and although they are not suitable for every individual if you have misaligned teeth Invisalign could be a great option. Each individual is different and teeth straightening can take from 6 to 18 months or sometimes longer. Our orthodontist will be able to advise you during your consultation.
As with all teeth straightening, once the treatment has been completed and the appliances have been removed, the teeth will have the tendency to move back to their original position. Our Orthodontist recommends the use of clear retainers and/or a fixed retainer which will provide you with long term retention to prevent teeth from moving back to their original positions.
Clear retainers will require compliance from you to wear them as per your Orthodontist’s instructions. Fixed retention uses a very thin wire which is stuck on to the backs of the front teeth to prevent tooth movement. It is advisable to see your dentist regularly to check that this wire has not become unstuck. Sometimes the Orthodontist may recommend the use of both forms of retention.
Please be advised that we recommend all patients seeking orthodontic treatment should have had a dental check-up by their own dentist or by one of our dentists at K Dental Studios. This is to ensure you are dentally fit before commencing any complex Orthodontic treatment, we will only ever recommend the treatment method we know will provide the best long-term results.
