Long recognised as one of the most effective treatments for missing and badly-damaged teeth, dental implants are custom-made teeth replacements. As well as looking highly natural, dental implants also provide an excellent degree of functionality.
Implants are titanium screws that are placed directly into your jawbone to provide an artificial replacement for the root of your missing tooth or teeth. They can support crowns, bridges or dentures, in a similar way that roots support natural teeth.
Dental implants are usually fitted during two separate procedures; the first being to fit the implant itself into your jawbone, and then the second a few months later to fit the new tooth onto the implant.
For some patients, it may be necessary to undergo another small surgical procedure for some bone grafting. We may not therefore be able to place the implant at the same time as the bone grafting. This could be your own bone, from another site or synthetic bone. The aim of this treatment is to achieve the best bony support for the implant which in turn will give you increased longevity with fewer maintenance issues in the future.
