So you think you might need braces?

Today, 15th May 2017, is World Orthodontic Day. A day to raise awareness of the benefits that orthodontic treatment, that is carried out by a registered orthodontic specialist, can have on a patient. These benefits include improving the appearance of your smile, improving your bite and your overall well-being. To mark the occasion, we wanted to share a little information about the Orthodontic services we offer at K Dental Studios.

Have your teeth become noticeably misaligned? Have they relapsed after having braces in your teenage years? Perhaps you’ve always struggled with the positioning of your teeth, but haven’t been able to access treatment? Don’t worry, because we can help.

We provide orthodontic treatments for adults and children of all ages. Misaligned teeth can be related to a number of dental problems and can also impact on a person’s confidence and self-esteem, but there’s no need to worry. Our experienced Orthodontist is able to provide a number of comfortable and aesthetically pleasing solutions to give you a beautifully aligned and natural looking smile.

So, you’ve recognised that your teeth are misaligned but what do you do now? The first step is to book an appointment to see your dentist who will be able to point you in the direction of an Orthodontist should you require orthodontic treatment. An orthodontist is not your regular dentist, they are a Specialist who has extra training and experience in this specific field to be able to provide the treatment in a safe and effective manner. At K Dental Studios, we will assess your oral health to ensure there are no underlying problems before moving forward with your orthodontic treatment, beginning with an initial consultation.

Sara Stephens, our Orthodontist, will take the time to listen to your concerns and requirements before doing a full assessment of your oral health. There are a number of orthodontic treatment methods available at the Studios, each of which has different characteristics and benefits. Some methods are only suited to those who wish to move one or two of their teeth very slightly, others are discreet treatment methods that can move multiple teeth over a longer period of time. Here’s a quick introduction into a couple of the treatment methods we offer:

  • Clear Braces

Clear ceramic braces are a great treatment method for those who want to change the positioning of multiple teeth, yet dislike the appearance of traditional metal braces. This discreet treatment method combines the benefit of a more traditional approach with the patients desire for a more aesthetically pleasing solution. We use Clarity Advanced Brackets from 3M which blend in very well with the patient’s teeth.

  • Metal Braces

Similar to the clear braces mentioned above, metal braces are perfect for those wishing to adjust the positioning of many teeth in order to improve their alignment. We use the reliable pre-coated Victory Brackets by 3M which incorporate a low profile design. What does that mean for the patient? Increased comfort and appearance, and often a faster treatment time than other methods.

  • Invisalign

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to straighten misaligned teeth in an extremely discreet manner. Each set of aligners is completely bespoke, which allows constant pressure to be applied to the teeth and slowly moves them into position. This treatment may not be suitable for everyone, but is favoured by many because of its discreet appearance – in fact, many describe these aligners as ‘almost invisible’.

  • Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are another discreet treatment method. Unlike regular train-track braces, the brackets are fitted to the back of the patient’s teeth and are therefore rarely seen by anyone other than the patient themselves. Lingual braces are a great option for those living with teeth that are only a little crooked yet still wish to realign them. Like all the above, we will be able to assess your suitability at your initial orthodontic consultation.

At the Studios, we pride ourselves on offering care that helps our patients maintain a good standard of oral health and achieve long-lasting results. If you would like to find out how we can help you to achieve a beautifully aligned smile that increases your overall standard of oral health, please call the practice on 0207 637 8484.

World Orthodontic Health Day

I along with other members of the British Orthodontic Society embrace World Orthodontic day which also represents the anniversary of the formation of the World Orthodontic Society in 1995. World Orthodontic day hopes to raise awareness of the many benefits that orthodontic treatment carried out by a registered orthodontic specialist can have, such as: improving the appearance of your smile, improving your bite and your overall well-being.

These days, medical research is increasingly more focused on the importance treatment methods improving the quality of life of patients. A recently published research paper* has found that orthodontic treatment improves the oral-health related quality of life with the most improvement being in emotional and social well-being.*
